lost futurist

  #
In downtown Philadelphia, there is an exhibit of the portfolio of a lost Michigan artist, Arthur Radebaugh. "From the mid-1930s onward, Radebaugh created radiant worlds filled with gleaming machines, sleek Art Deco skyscrapers and stylish robots. His space age but pragmatic inventions, from modular homes to be delivered by helicopter to jet-propelled commuter trains, all have a wild utopian sensibility that is now both nostalgic and magical." -- Jared Rosenbaum, Curator, Lost Highways Archive &Research Library They are seeking information for a book on Radebaugh, who is "elusive and nearly forgotten." They would like to know: Has anyone heard of Radebaugh, or can anyone recommend any collectors/galleries that might specialize in his type of art? They are looking for biographical information, copies of his works, originals, etc.. They will be traveling to Michigan to research the book, so any tips or insights would be appreciated. The exhibit can be viewed at http://www.losthighways.org/radebaugh.html.

outside circle happenings

  #
What does everyone think of taking the outside circle presence outside of the web -- to increase visibility, draw in creative new members, or just to involve and be involved in our local communities? I've always wanted to stage "Action Painting Night," where participants can wear old clothes and engage in a multi-person "painting jam." This would require finding a space (like a warehouse or storage unit) that could be draped in plastic and have large canvases tacked up to walls and ceiling, and rolled out on the floor. Perhaps a meeting previous to the happening, to decide on what supplies are desired (colors and types of paint, brushes/sponges/aerators/balloons/etc.) Of course, food and beverages. Any other ideas for outside circle happenings? Or should we keep it all "cyber?"

tints and shades....

  #

Hey guys... I'm looking for your thoughts on including color into the layout of this website.  Right now we've stuck with black and white and all of the shades inbetween.

Here are some past ideas:

  • Ben and I had talked a while ago that a monochromatic color scheme allowed us to hightlight the content and people's work.
  • We've also talked about allowing the logo to change color over time - ie once a year, season, etc.

I wouldn't mind sticking with the grays but possibly add a highlight.

What are your thoughts?

spaces website work

  #

I'm hope to do a bit of work on the website today.  Some thoughts:

  • put new graphic logo in upper right corner
  • incorporate graphic in to email templates
  • add some categories to my weblog

What are your thoughts for categories to bin our postings in?

Ideas: Resources, Artists, Announcements, Humor, ?

note: I already put Annoncements in categories today as an example - 'cause this is an announcement. Heh.
