Ryan Spencer Reed- Hands Of A Displaced Sudan

  #

The photos of Ryan Spencer Reed are on display at the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Gallery in Jackson Michigan.  They are also available to view at www.groupM35.com/reed.

"Genocide begins, however improbably, in the conviction that classes of biological distinction indisputably sanction social and political discrimination." Andrea Dworkin

When French philosopher Albert Camus wrote, "A trial cannot be conducted by announcing the general culpability of a civilization. Only the actual deeds which, at least, stank in the nostrils of the entire world were brought to judgment," he had not lived long enough to witness a shift in the priorities of nations.

With instant communication from anywhere on earth and dedicated journalists willing to stand in harms way, how can it be suggested that "the stank" of Sudan is not in the nostrils of even the most semi-conscious citizen of the world? Mr. Camus could not have been aware of the extent to which the pursuit of the world's resources would require focus that discounts the value of cultures and people. This misplaced priority and the recognition of governments who assist those in power, fuel the machine that serves to distract from the collateral damage of the collectors of such wealth.

Arirang...Song of Hope

http://www.lansingcitypulse.com/050706/stories/bird.asp

The
Hope Borbas Okemos Library will host the korean brush painting of Hyung-Kook Lee during the month of July.  The opening reception will be Sunday, July 10 from 1-4pm.

"Ever since the Industrial Revolution, human beings have lived in material abundance.
Matters...as they became abundant, they've caused not a few ill effects.
The unlimited competitions, the loneliness in the crowd, the loss of humanity, the innumerable accidents and crimes, and the dangerous trend to take life lightly...

The modern people-- those who were born as natural beings, and keep in the giant artificial concrete structures their dreams of grey-- where shall the find their true haven?

Religions, the strong will of human beings, searching for the tranquil state of mind-- can any of these be a substitute for it?

perverspective- the work or patrick hughes

  #
the studio of Patrick Hughes
while home in traverse city for the holidays, i went to the local community college's dennos museum.  they had an excellent gallery of the work of patrick hughes.  very interesting work dealing with perspective.  although it is difficult to capture the full effect of his 3-dimensional pieces in flat, "dead" 2-dimensional photos, his gallery is definitely worth a visit.

google slut

  #

first, there was the google toolbar, which made searching the web a snap.

next came the google desktop, which made searching the files on my computer a breeze.

and then google decided to give me a gigabyte of gmail space, which i thought i would never fill.

now, there is the gmail drive:

"GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google GMail account, allowing you to use GMail as a storage medium. GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google GMail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to."
