Waging Peace: A Traveling Circus and Minstrel Show

This came to me by way of our friend Medicine Crow, and I thought I'd post it up on his behalf.

Waging Peace! A Traveling Circus and Minstrel Show (A Prospectus):

This is a cooperative, interactive and educational low-tech company of artists, musicians, performers, writers, actors, magicians, preachers, prophets, etc. whose purpose is to promote Peace by breaking down the barriers between individuals and encouraging the growth of organic communities of like-minded people. Our tools are music, dance, poetry, magic, comedy and drama, all salted with humor and a large dose of personal humility. Going from community to community we set up, perform and inspire those in attendance to participate, with us and (more importantly) with each other. We will ask for a standard donation but no one will be turned away.

The members consist of those who want to do more than oppose war. Peace is not the absence of conflict, but rather, its resolution without resorting to hostility or violence: this is best done by promoting and building communities that transcend the usual flotsam and jetsam that separate us as humans.

Money will need to be raised to support the ongoing work of the group and for the sustenance of the players. The skillful use of the faces of dead Presidents, printed on pieces of paper, as an arbitrary medium of exchange seems to have eluded me. Anyone possessing such a gift should come forward sooner that later. As much as I abhor the idea of paying taxes to a Government whose apparent, primary purpose seems to be the waging of war, I am not willing to jeopardize the ongoing mission of the group by trying to circumvent paying taxes. For the present I feel that we must render unto Caesar those things that he claims as his…even if he is a bloodthirsty barbarian. A Green Energy Wizard will need to come forward to help us navigate this quagmire. We must go forward in faith but with our feet firmly on the ground.

“Blessed are the Peace Makers, they shall see God.”

Jesus (Yeshua) of Nazareth

I don’t know about anyone else, but I most definitely want to see God. In fact, seeing God has been on my “To Do” list for as long as I can remember. I cannot begin to count the times I was told, in my days of vagabondage in the early nineteen-seventies through nineteen-eighty, that if I took this pill, climbed that Mountain or joined some group/church/organiziation that I would see God. I tried a few of these things, with some skepticism I’ll admit, and never saw God (or if I did I didn’t recognize Her). This may well be the best way of attaining that goal: It seems pretty straightforward anyway.

Anyone who wants to see God should get in contact with:

Mike hosts and/or coordinates multiple open-mic nights in and around Lansing, with the option of recording the performances to a CD for the musician to take home. In some locations, he offers up to a 30 minute block of time per performer. Would anyone be interested in generating turnout for these open mics?10/18/2003 2:05:58 PM
