ArtServeMichigan.org is a good resource for Michigan-based artists.

Their mission:

ArtServe Michigan supports and advocates for the arts and cultural education in the state of Michigan. ArtServe Michigan accomplishes its mission by working with artists, educators, cultural organizations, businesses, volunteers and others through statewide programs, services and a variety of collaborative efforts.

one problem i have with the Michigan Artist Directory is that is essentially a "pay to play" directory. you have to fork over at least $40 to be listed. there's something missing from a community when individual artists (who should be spending money on art supplies or food) and non-profit groups (like us) don't sign up because of fees. why not make it free (which would greatly increase web traffic) and add a sidebar ad to cover your overhead - dialogue would increase between educators, artists and other organizations, galleries would get more visitors (business would increase), artists would get more exposure, and "MAD" would get all the credit.	9/24/2004 12:39:02 PM ben
This also means that anyone with $40 can be a member. Not to be elitist, but that sort of criterion does not ensure that the best art in Michigan is being represented.	9/27/2004 12:05:56 AM stargrazer
