Free Legal Services

This came from Christine Stamas at the Detroit Artists Market:

The Detroit Artists Market (DAM) and ArtServe Michigan's Volunteer Lawyers
for Arts and Culture program have joined together in a major project to
provide free monthly legal services to Detroit area artists. The next Artist
Legal Clinic will be held on Saturday, February 5th from 1 - 3 p.m. at the
DAM gallery located at 4719 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.

The Clinic is an opportunity for artists to seek private consultations on
their arts-related legal issues with one of the volunteer attorneys. After
an initial consultation at the Artists Legal Clinic if it is determined that
the artist has a more in-depth legal issue the artist will be pre-qualified
using the Volunteer Lawyers for Arts and Culture (VLAC) income guidelines
and the case placed with a volunteer attorney.

The ArtServe Volunteer Lawyers for Arts and Culture is a referral service
that provides pro-bono legal assistance to income eligible artists and arts
and cultural organizations. Legal assistance available covers a wide range
of areas including contracts, copyrights, patents, trademarks, acquisition
of business space, real estate, constitutional rights and First Amendments
issues, etc.

For more information, please contact Kim Dabbs, Director of Service Programs
at ArtServe via email at or by phone at
